Elephone U Pro Review – Flexible Screen?

Here is my unboxing and early review of the Elephone U Pro. A midranger Smartphone that features a flexible screen and a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Chipset. So, how good is it?

Galaxy S8 Lookalike

It’s quite obvious that the looks of the Elephone U Pro holds likeness to the Galaxy S8. The curved screen is probably the most appealing part of it. The phone also has Dual sided glass design with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Blistering Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and Adreno 512 delivers amazing performance and that includes gaming capabilities. I think the performance is about the same with the Xiaomi Mi Note 3. Benchmark scores also prove how efficient and fast the new Chipset is. You can watch my full review, because it is all there

Breathtaking Screen

Elephone advertises it as Infinity Flexible, but lets just call it Curved Screen, because the screen is amazing. It is high quality with deep colors and contrasts. Brightness levels are excellent too. Not to mention this is an AMOLED Screen.

Android Oreo out of the box

Another major plus of the Elephone U Pro, is that it comes with Android 8.0 Oreo right out of the box. It is also clean, meaning no bloatwares and the UI looks gorgeous. It also supports multiple languages and has Playstore preinstalled.

Goodbye 3.5mm Audio Jack

Well, there is no more 3.5mm Audio Jack, so you have to carry the USB Type C to 3.5mm Adapter with you at all times, which I personally am not a fan off.

Impressive Audio Quality

The loudspeakers on this thing is loud, crisp and sounds amazing. I was really surprise by how good the speakers actually are. Plugging in a pair of 3.5mm Headphones also offers much better audio quality.

Fully loaded connectivity

It has NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and the Dual Band Wireless performance is top notch. 4G LTE performance is also impressive.

Unimpressive Camera

No one can sugarcoat, but the camera needs a lot of work. On my short use, it didn’t blow me away. On the contrary, I noticed several bugs on it.

Firstly, the camera app on frequent use will start to fail.

Secondly, IS (Image Stabilization) only works on 1080p but doesn’t work as it should. The video is laggy and you often see Media has died issue. So no point of turning it on.

Third, no IS on 4K videos

On the plus side, still photos look great especially on very good lighting.

Accurate Fingerprint Scanner but is not that fast

The Rear Fingerprint ID is quite reliable but the speed of recognition is not instantaneous.

8 hours of Battery Life

Well, I could not definitely give you an accurate number because PCMark 2.0 will not open the result. I dunno the issue, but my rough estimate is about 8 to 8.5 hours of casual use.

Wireless Charging

I haven’t tested this yet, but this phone apparently supports Wireless Charging

  • Blistering Performance similar to the Xiaomi Mi Note 3
  • Comes with Android 8 Oreo out of the box
  • Clean OS, no bloatwares and well organized UI
  • NFC, Dual Band WiFi
  • Wireless Charging Support

The Bad:

  • Camera needs a lot of work
  • Pricey
  • No 3.5mm Audio Jack

Gorgeous, Fast but the camera is just mehhh

It seems anti-climactic, but that is my experience of the Elephone U Pro. Honestly, I was awestruck with how it looks and the screen is just amazing. But having used it for a day, the camera in particular is its biggest weakness. It really needs a improvement and I should think Elephone would improve the performance. The stills camera isn’t a big problem, but it is more on the video side and the lack of options.
