Kevin buys a new phone.

Before I get into the story I want to point out that me and Kevin are great friends and he has a brain in there though when it comes to financial decisions or foresight, he is a total Kevin. The guy is in his early twenties. So the thing about Kevin is that he is ok but has this sort of... Layer of Kevin surrounding him and sometimes, it comes back to bite him. This is the story of the time Kevin needed to get a new phone. So all of our friends used android smartphones (myself included).Kevin did not, Kevin used and Iphone... now we never bashed apple stuff or called it shit or whatever, everyone has their preferences, who cares.Apparently Kevin cared, a lot because he would constantly spew stuff about how shit android phones were and how better apple phones are etc etc etc... whatever, we didn't care. Then, one day, Kevin's phone broke. So Kevin needed a new phone. Now another thing you need to know about kevin is that he is a very impulsive and sporadic buyer, if he sees something that remotely peaks his interest, he will get it, he won't even bother to look at other similar offers or even consider whether buying said product is a good financial decision or not, basically it seems like the only thing that goes on in his head when he sees something he likes is something like "ooooh shiny I need it" sorta thing. You'd think that after a while Kevin would wise up and actually start being more careful whith what he buys but nope, not in the case of his new phone. So Kevin calls me one day and tells me all about this awesome phone he had found on the internet (you can see where this is going)It was an androidHmmmm... it was interesting how suddenly Kevin shifted from "android tech is utter shit apple4lyfe" to "android is actually pretty good"So the phone in question?Well, you see, Kevin was a huge anime fan and as he was scrolling through offers until he saw the one.A custom-themed phone from his favourite anime with some sort of special 3ds-esque 3d screen feature (tbh that feature was kinda cool but it was just a novelty used to attract suckers Kevins, any person brighter than Vantablack would see through the bs)Pretty cool, right? except that:1: It was second hand but costed as much as a brand new phoneand2: it was Japanese... and we live in EuropeSo I tell Kevin that hey, maybe he should just look around for a bit just in case, sure the phone is cool and all but its kinda expensive and its from Japan and it might have compatibility issues with European products. He of course said he would check other offers out but we both knew he wasn't.So he blows all his cash on it and gets it shipped from Japan without looking up any issues he might have or specs prior of purchase.about a month later, it comes in, he is super excited and all, he puts in his sd card, turns on some tunes, tries to plug in headphones and... no audio jack.Well, shitOk well I guess he needs to get wireless adapter, right? fine no biggies, he goes and buys one, plugs it into his headphones and...nothing.Remember when I said the phone might have compatibility issues? well Kevin had to find out the hard way that this exact limited edition model was compatible with only one wireless adapter that, of course was sold exclusively in Japan and was also hella expensive.Kevin bought the adapter.Kevin also had voicemail. It was in Japanese.Kevin did not speak Japanese.Kevin also ended up selling the phone (at a loss of course) and finally got a normal phone. And this was just about the time he needed a new phone, don't get me started about the time he needed to get a car. Also one final thing I want to add is that Kevin is kinda lazy... well quite lazy which I feel half the time his attitude makes life harder for him, not easier like whenever he calls and asks for "advice" about stuff (like where could he buy a certain product) he in reality just wants you to google a bunch of stores for him... due is literally too lazy to use google... Kevin if you ask where to buy something and I tell you the type of store that sells those things you look them up yourself not ask others to do it for you, I know you are capable of doing that and asking others to do it is downright disrespectful. To Kevin's defense he seems to not get social cues much so I cut him a lot of slack, like I said he is a pretty great guy once you get through that initial layer of Kevin-ness and when you understand his language.

So all of our friends used android smartphones (myself included).

Kevin did not, Kevin used and Iphone... now we never bashed apple stuff or called it shit or whatever, everyone has their preferences, who cares.

Apparently Kevin cared, a lot because he would constantly spew stuff about how shit android phones were and how better apple phones are etc etc etc... whatever, we didn't care.

So Kevin calls me one day and tells me all about this awesome phone he had found on the internet (you can see where this is going)

It was an android

Hmmmm... it was interesting how suddenly Kevin shifted from "android tech is utter shit apple4lyfe" to "android is actually pretty good"

So the phone in question?

Well, you see, Kevin was a huge anime fan and as he was scrolling through offers until he saw the one.

A custom-themed phone from his favourite anime with some sort of special 3ds-esque 3d screen feature (tbh that feature was kinda cool but it was just a novelty used to attract suckers Kevins, any person brighter than Vantablack would see through the bs)

Pretty cool, right? except that:

1: It was second hand but costed as much as a brand new phone

and

2: it was Japanese... and we live in Europe

So I tell Kevin that hey, maybe he should just look around for a bit just in case, sure the phone is cool and all but its kinda expensive and its from Japan and it might have compatibility issues with European products.

He of course said he would check other offers out but we both knew he wasn't.

So he blows all his cash on it and gets it shipped from Japan without looking up any issues he might have or specs prior of purchase.

about a month later, it comes in, he is super excited and all, he puts in his sd card, turns on some tunes, tries to plug in headphones and... no audio jack.

Well, shit

Ok well I guess he needs to get wireless adapter, right? fine no biggies, he goes and buys one, plugs it into his headphones and...

nothing.

Remember when I said the phone might have compatibility issues? well Kevin had to find out the hard way that this exact limited edition model was compatible with only one wireless adapter that, of course was sold exclusively in Japan and was also hella expensive.

Kevin bought the adapter.

Kevin also had voicemail.

It was in Japanese.

Kevin did not speak Japanese.

Kevin also ended up selling the phone (at a loss of course) and finally got a normal phone.
