ADD study advice

I am master student, and have ADD. I do not use my meds (dex) for lectures, making me very unproductive throughout the semester. I do this to avoid side effects, and to more easily maintain a healthy weight, so basically just health reasons.Now, with several big exams coming up in a few weeks, I have no choice to but use the medication: ADD literally keeps me from concentrating for even 5 minutes, so making it to opening the powerpoint slides is usually my only achievement. Since today I started my normal dose of 5mg again, and noticed that concentration is far better, but still not optimal. I can study, but still waste about 40-60% of my time just walking around or day dreaming.Does anyone have advice on how to maximize my concentration and effectivenss further? Any tips, besides of course putting my smartphone aside? I am also considering increasing my dosage to 7,5mg or 10mg, or making the intake of 2x5mg overlap so that I have a higher peak. I have tried this before, sometimes it helped, but the results were mixed. I usually take 1x5mg, and when it starts wearing off and I am still motivated to continue I take a second one.All feedback, in terms of medication or general is appreciated.
