I'm finally going to retire my 5s when I receive my X in the next week or two. I'm so happy.

Including taxes (but no AppleCare Warranty) my new 5s cost me $694 from my carrier. I'm still using that phone. This was my first smartphone. For whatever reason, a relative told me to buy the phone outright instead of using a contract with Verizon which would have cost me about $200.Anyway, I've always despised the 5s. Way too small. The virtual keys were way too close to each other. I couldn't enter my longish password so I was locked out. When I entered the wrong password, the phone said try again in 1 minutes, then 2 minutes and kept doubling until the delay was days and then weeks. I knew the correct password since I could enter the iCloud password on my MacBook.I called Apple. The jerk was nasty and offered no suggestions. One week later it dawned on me to wipe the phone and enter a simple 4 digit password. The moron at Apple could have suggested that.No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't enter the keys correctly. 2 years later I brought the 5s to Apple. They had no problems entering keys with their hands but my fingers didn't work. My solution was for them to stay with me at all times and do the typing for me (I'm not sure why but they declined). As it turns out the touchscreen was defective from the day I bought that POS that was Steve Jobs little wet fantasy. I wish I could use my iPad Pro as a phone -- nice and big. I'm old so I no longer have to care what people think of me (and quite frankly, no one pays any attention to what invisible old people do anyway). The 5s touchid is absolutely awful. If my hands weren't perfectly dry, the touchid didn't work. When the phone rang, my finger (wet or dry) couldn't swipe to answer so I missed many phone calls. I miss my flip phones -- just open and start speaking.I know that starting with the 6, the touchid is way better than the 5 but I don't buy new stuff for the sake of buying new stuff.I ordered the X with 256GB. I may never need the memory but better to have too much than too little. I once made the mistake of buying a 4 cylinder engine for a van. The vehicle was massively underpowered and I lived with crap that could barely make it up hills for over 6 years. Is the X 'over-priced'? Maybe, but like all of my other expensive stuff, I keep things for a very long time so over 4 or 5 years, the dollars/year isn't that much for the X. I have expensive counter top kitchen appliances that are older than most redditors. Some of my kitchenware is way older than your parents or even your grandparents. Will the next generation of the X be better? Of course. And the following year that model will be even better. My wife use to sell stuff on commission. She'd have some people come into the store several times a year for years and years waiting for the next improved model. In all the years she worked there, these tweaks never bought anything ... because next year's model was going to be sooo much better. In another week or two I'll get the X and happily put the 5s into the drawer with all my antique flip phones.Damn, I so excited.
